“Stop it! Just, stop it!”
“Get out of my room!”
“MOOOOOOOOOM!!! I just needed a sweatshirt”
“Find your own!”
You just need to flee this crazy place. After being detoured all morning, you finally managed to actually style your hair, slap on some makeup and find your shoes. As you glance up at the clock, you realize you’re already late. It’s 15 minutes away and that’s only if the traffic light gods are on your side.
Grabbing your poorly charged cell phone, you give your husband a quick kiss as you rush out the door, “Thanks honey … There’s a pizza in the fridge! Call me if you need me (muttering “NOT” under your breath)! Love you! Bye.” Slam.
Driving up to the well manicured lawn of your dear friend, by the grace of God and a heavy foot, you’re only 12 minutes late. As you give yourself a final check in the car mirror, you notice an odd piece of green herb between your teeth … salad?? The salad. That dang Tortellini Salad. The one you were supposed to bring that’s sitting home in the refrigerator.
You take comfort in the fact that at least you’ve being invited to a luncheon by your friend, who’s alot like you. You’re looking forward to meeting new people and enjoying intelligent adult conversation. There’s a place at the table set for you. But suddenly you find yourself squirming in your seat as you wonder what the rest of the group is like.
1.) Are certain subjects taboo?
2.) Will you be accepted?
3.) Will you laugh too loud or at inappropriate times?
4.) Do they all have spotless houses and Stepford children?
However, within no time, you’ve slipped off your shoes, let down your hair and have discovered women with struggles and experiences much like your own.
That is what you’ll find at Mothering from Scratch. And, in case you’re wondering, the answers to the above questions are: 1.) No. 2.) Yes. 3.) Maybe, but we’ll love you anyway. 4.) Neither exist. We promise, we’ve looked for them. If you find either, call 1-800-WEDONTBELIEVEYOU.
By giving you a little preview of what will be on our menu, we hope to speed up your comfort level here.
The first thing you need to know is that we are not experts and that we are a bit eccentric — some might say odd or quirky. Along with our insights and experiences, as well as traditional resources, such as books, websites and other blogs, you’ll also find the offbeat here. Things that make us laugh, or that make our lives easier, more interesting or more beautiful. We hope you’ll offer the same.
We’re here to provide support, encouragement and sisterhood, not a one-size-fits-all recipe for success. We’re a work in progress, just like our children. The reason we can face each day and the unexpected surprises (both good and bad) that motherhood brings is because of the strength and guidance of our Father. We have nothing to give or offer that He has not given us.
We’ve all forgotten the salad at one time or another. You’re safe here. We’ll feed you.
