You may be blissfully enjoying a season where you aren’t. We’re all jealous, but love you anyway. Really.
Regardless, I encourage you to take a mom nap. No! I’m not joking!
Mom Nap: 5-60 minute rest of the mommy brain and body which enables her to use the same brain and body more effectively for the rest of the day. Recommended every day; minimum of 3 times per week.
Make it happen. Seriously. I have seen over and over again moms talk about that the only time they can clean their house is when the kids are sleeping. Or, the only time they can get anything done is when the kids are sleeping. If you do simple math, this doesn’t calculate. Kids sleep a total of 9-12 hours depending on their age. You need 7-9 hours of sleep. We all need more than 3 hours a day to “get everything done” (which really doesn’t exist, by the way).
Anything beyond that is a negative number!
Time doesn’t exist in the negative!
So what’s a mom to do….
I went several (ok, really about 9) years without getting a full night’s sleep on a regular basis. To be truthful, with a snoring husband and a cell phone that buzzes and dings in the middle of the night because of his job, both my husband and I have been in this state for decades.
As moms, we have to be very protective of our rest time.
Napping is an art. One medium that I can fully embrace because it is the only way that I am going to get enough sleep on a regular basis. When my kids were little, it meant slipping them in bed with me during one of their naps to nurse. Now that they are older, I have trained them to try their best to be quiet during these times.
So please, please, please get some rest — somewhere, someway — to feel better and be more effective for yourself and your family. It’s not selfish. It’s practical. It honors your worth and your importance as a mom.
A well-rested, well-napped, well-loved mom.
