I am a born writer. Ever since I won a strawberry-shaped notebook for “Best Essay” in the second grade, I was hooked.
But as much as I love typing on a keyboard, I also adore opportunities to minister and encourage women face-to face.
I have spoken at conferences, retreats, workshops and led countless small, informal groups. I would love to customize a presentation that meets the unique needs of your organization’s group of women.
The themes I love to speak on include:
- Redemption — Over and over again, I have seen God “redeem the years the locusts have eaten.” (Joel 2:25). I love to encourage women that our mistakes don’t define us. When placed into His hands, they can actually be used for our good and for the good of our families.
- Invisible Wounds —So many of us walk around with a smile on our face. We look perfectly fine and normal. But beneath the surface, we have wounds that just won’t heal. We’re fighting battles that no one else sees or seems to understand. I share openly and honestly my own decades-long battle with chronic illness and the mental, spiritual and emotional wounds that accompany it. I also share the healing, transforming love of the Great Physician.
- Identity — I have spent many years of my life trying to fit in someone else’s box. To copy formulas for motherhood, marriage and life in general, that seemed to work for others. I always assumed that I couldn’t really trust my own judgment. I didn’t have confidence in who God made ME. It is a journey I am still on, but God has helped me to embrace my uniqueness and quit envying and copying the uniqueness of others.
- Encouragement for Moms — I have a huge heart for mothers. My book, with co-author Kathy Helgemo, Mothering From Scratch: Finding the Best Parenting Style for You and Your Family, chronicles my struggle to be the mom God made me to be and embrace the unique children He gave me. Other topics I speak on include mom guilt, pursuing your dreams while raising kids and how to discern wise mothering advice. I love to speak to moms and MOPS groups.
What People are Saying
I have worked in ministry for over 20 years, including with speakers John Maxwell and Women of Faith, and I can say without reservation that Melinda Means is in the Top 1% of speakers available today. What sets Melinda apart is not just her message but her presence; she invites the audience in through deep vulnerability and a caring compassion that says, “I am with you.” ~ Tracie Robbins, Program Manager, International Justice Mission
Melinda asks strong questions that really show her understanding of the topic, but also (comes) “down to the trenches” to hang out with women asking the same questions. She is so warm and relatable! ~ Suzie Eller, Author & Speaker, Proverbs 31 Ministries
Melinda … shares great insights while clearly conveying practical wisdom. (Her) real-life experiences gives her the ability to offer meaningful tips and great ideas in a fun-filled way. Your group will learn, laugh, & grow!” ~ Michelle Myers, Coordinator, MOPS of Ft. Myers
Melinda’s personal testimony is very powerful and her ability to relate that story to every individual’s personal struggle is quite effective. When Melinda was finished speaking at our recent Women’s Conference, the response to her altar call for prayer was incredible … Many lives were touched that day. ~ Lauren Anderson, Church Executive Director
Although it’s helpful to hear others’ experiences, above all, I point you to look to God for direction about whether i’m the girl that HE has for your group.
HE’s the best recommendation any of us could ever ask for.
